Denim Womp Baby Birthday

Role: Creative Director / Producer / Birthday Boy / Host

Walking with friends is my favorite thing to do. So for my 30th birthday I invited 40 of my friends on a thematic Womp Baby Walk through several iconic San Francisco neighborhoods. Party guests were asked to wear all denim, as they followed the groovy music blasting from a boombox in a stroller.

At each location along our route, I provided fun historical San Francisco facts, while encouraging people to be more curious about the details of their surroundings. When we finally arrived to our destination at Levi’s Plaza (the obvious final destination for a group of folks in all denim), a New Orleans style marching band surprised and delighted guests for an impromptu dance party.

Oh yah, and we made this womp baby a fundraiser as well! Instead of birthday gifts, I asked that everyone make a small donation to Not For Sale, an organization helping to combat and end human trafficking.

Here are some of the highlights along the route:

  • Starting location: Alice Marbles Tennis Courts - beautiful view of the Bay

  • Danced our way down Lombard Street - one of the windiest roads in the world

  • Struck a pose for a photo op in front of the iconic Diego Rivera Mural at the San Francisco Art Institute

  • Impromptu dance party to “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen, at Washington Square Park

  • Stopped for a fortune cookie snack at the Fortune Cookie Factory in China Town (the fortunes were customized by yours truly)

  • Trekked up the steep hills to Coit Tower

  • Meandered down the Filbert Street steps in a jungle-like environment while listening to “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers

  • Surprise marching band performance and dance party at Levi’s Plaza

  • Yummy food and celebratory birthday drinks at Pier 23
